Scientists from the KarRC RAS studied in the wintertime regime in the Nizhny Vyg River estuarine region
Scientists from the KarRC RAS, together with colleagues from the Marine Hydrophysical Institute RAS, investigated the physical and chemical parameters of water in the Nizhny Vyg River estuary. The effort involved studying the thermo-hydrodynamic and biogeochemical regimes in the river mouth during the winter season. It is a continuation of long-term research on the White Sea.

Olga Bakhmet: this is a special year for us
In 2026, Karelian Research Centre RAS celebrates the 80th anniversary since its foundation. The kick-off event for this landmark year for Karelian scientists was the celebratory joint session of the academic councils of the Karelian Research Centre RAS, Petrozavodsk State University, and Karelian Branch of the Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA). In our interview, KarRC RAS leader Dr. Olga Bakhmet dwells upon the history, modern days and future of the Karelian Research Centre.

Karelian scientists agree to collaborate with Indian colleagues
Karelian scientists are launching cooperation with their Indian colleagues. The agreement was reached by KarRC RAS delegation on a visit to India.
During the visit, members of the team delivered presentations at three scientific conferences, signed two Memorandums of Understanding, and discussed future joint activities.

Scientists have proposed applying best practices of cross-border cooperation to address Arctic environmental problems
A presentation of the scientific publication titled “Using Best Practices from Russian-European Cross-Border Cooperation Programs to Address Local Environmental Problems in Regions of the Russian Arctic” took place at the Karelian Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (KarRC RAS). The publication of this study was made possible thanks to a grant received by KarRC RAS from the Expert Center "Arctic Development Project Office."

The first 2026 issue of the journal Transactions of KarRC RAS is out of press
The first issue of the Scientific Journal Transactions of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2026 is out of press. The Academic Council of the KarRC RAS has resolved that in 2026 the journal will return to its full pre-pandemic publication frequency of 12 issues per year. The theme of the first issue is ecological studies.
