Awards were presented at the celebratory joint session of Academy Councils at the KarRC RAS

At the celebratory session of Academic Councils of the KarRC RAS, Petrozavodsk State University (PetrSU), and Karelian Branch of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) dedicated to the Russian Science Day certificates of honor and letters of appreciation from ministries and government agencies were awarded to staff of scientific divisions and winners of the KarRC RAS young scientists competition were announced.

During the meeting, awards were presented to scientists. Also, the results of the KarRC RAS Young Scientists Competition were announced, with the winners receiving diplomas and money rewards.

A letter of appreciation from the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education was awarded to Nadezhda Lavrova, Researcher at the Institute of Geology KarRC RAS. Certificates of honor from the Russian Academy of Sciences were presented to Senior Researcher Marina Krupnova of the Institute of Biology KarRC RAS; Senior Researcher Fyodor Fyodorov of the Institute of Biology KarRC RAS; Senior Researcher Evgenia Svetova of the Institute of Geology KarRC RAS; Senior Researcher Anna Ruokolainen of the Forest Research Institute KarRC RAS; and Senior Researcher Ekaterina Kostikova of the Institute of Applied Mathematical Research KarRC RAS. A certificate of honor from the Government of the Republic of Karelia was awarded to Leading Researcher Andrey Khumala of the Forest Research Institute.

Representing the Republic of Karelia Ministry of Economic Development, First Deputy Minister Alexander Lomako congratulated the award recipients and the scientific community of Karelia, and presented awards from the Ministry. Letters of appreciation from the Minister of Economic Development were presented to Anastasia Vasileva, Valentina Karginova-Gubinova, and Marina Moroshkina, Senior Researchers at the Institute of Economics KarRC RAS and Sergey Tishkov, KarRC RAS Institute of Economics Secretary for Science.

Awards from the Republic of Karelia Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment were presented by the First Deputy Minister Alexey Pavlov. The team of the Karelian Research Centre RAS was awarded a Certificate of Honor from the Ministry in recognition of many years of fruitful cooperation, collaboration in tackling environmental issues, and contribution to promoting research on Karelia's natural resources. Certificates of Honor from the Ministry were also awarded to Svetlana Grabovik, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Biology KarRC RAS; Nadezhda Kantserova, Senior Researcher at the Institute of Biology KarRC RAS; and Oleg Kuznetsov, Chief Researcher at the Institute of Biology KarRC RAS.

During the ceremony, winners of the KarRC RAS Young Scientists Competition were announced. All in all, 35 papers were submitted for the competition in 2025. The commission made up of scientists from all KarRC RAS divisions chose the authors of ten papers as the winners. The young scientists were awarded diplomas and money rewards.

- Publications, essentially, indicate how our work is assessed. It matters a lot where the papers are published and what the expert judgment is. The way young scientists respond to modern challenges and what the rising generation is like is crucial for the Centre’s development, - stressed KarRC RAS leader Olga Bakhmet, congratulating the winners.

The awards ceremony was followed the main agenda of the Academic Councils' session, featuring presentations by Mikhail Goldenberg, Director of the National Museum of the Republic of Karelia, and Olga Bakhmet, KarRC RAS CEO. They talked about the past and the present of academic science in Karelia, with reference to the 80th anniversary of the Karelian Research Centre RAS celebrated this year.
