Application process for 2025/2026 Doctoral Studies started at KarRC RAS

On June 20, Karelian Research Centre RAS began accepting papers from applicants for its Doctoral Courses. This year, university graduates can choose from ten academic specialties in the STEM, natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences.
From June 20 to July 3, 2025, KarRC RAS Doctoral Studies Department is accepting applications for higher education programs for training research and research-educational personnel for the 2025/2026 academic year.

A total of 17 full-time positions are available this year, most of which are state-funded. Applications are open for the following academic specialties:

1.2.2. Mathematical Modeling, Numerical Methods, and Software Systems
1.5.4. Biochemistry
1.5.12. Zoology
1.5.15. Ecology
1.5.21. Plant Physiology and Biochemistry
1.6.3. Petrology, Volcanology
4.1.6. Forest Science, Silviculture, Forest Crops, Forest Drainage, Landscaping, Forest Fire Science, and Forest Valuation
5.2.3. Regional and Sectoral Economics
5.6.1. Russian History
5.9.5. Russian Language. Languages of the Peoples of Russia

In accordance with Russian law, doctoral students are eligible for deferment from military conscription, and those admitted to state-funded positions who maintain good academic standing receive a monthly stipend.

The application deadline is July 3, 2025. Entrance exams will be held from September 1 to 10. Studies at the KarRC RAS Doctoral Studies Department begin on October 1.

Scientists performing integrated monitoring of Ladoga Skerries NP ecosystems

A multidisciplinary expedition to the Ladoga Skerries National Park was performed by specialists from several subdivisions of KarRC RAS. The focus was on the park’s plants and animals. Scientists map the forest cover and its dynamics, identify rare species, and evaluate human impact on the natural ecosystems. The results can be used when planning economic and recreational activities in the protected area.

Karelian scientists performed an expedition in the footsteps of Elias Lönnrot and Into Kondrad Inha

Staff of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History KarRC RAS went on an expedition around northern parts of Karelia, visiting places journeyed in the 19th century by collector of Karelian runo songs and author of the “Kalevala” epic Elias Lönnrot and by a well-known Finnish journalist and photographer Into Kondrad Inha.
