On April 1st Director of the Institute of Applied Mathematical Research KarRC RAS Vladimir Mazalov signed the Memorandum on Cooperation with the Central University of Kerala. This is a dynamically developing university engaged in training of top-qualification specialists (MSc, PhD) and in research.
– Long-term partnership, in particular related to models and methods of applied probability and game theory, as well as research in collaboration with colleagues from the Central University of Kerala are among the current priorities for the Institute of Applied Mathematical Research, – remarked Alexander Rumyantsev, Senior Researcher at the Laboratory for Telecommunication Systems IAMR KarRC RAS.
IAMR KarRC RAS has had good experience of productive cooperation with Indian colleagues before. In 2018 Alexander Rumyantsev provided training for master’s students at the Central University of Kerala within the international program Matrix Analytic Methods in Queueing Models. Since then, specialists from the two countries have been regularly having joint seminars and conferences and working together on large projects.
The scientist proclaims that such a partnership helps intensify scientific exchanges, sharing of expertise, and international collaboration on topics of joint interest. "Concerted response to new challenges and collaborative handling of the applied problems of today will be mutually beneficial for all parties to this agreement", – added Alexander Rumyantsev in conclusion.

Ice-related phenomena on rivers emptying into the White Sea now last three weeks less than 60 years before
Ice on northern rivers now forms later while ice-off occurs earlier. Karelian scientists confirmed this having analyzed 64 years of marine and meteorological data from the estuaries of rivers draining into the White Sea along its western coast. Climate change has bit three weeks off the ice-covered period on these rivers. The reductions have been the most significant in the last 30 years, aligning with global warming trends in Arctic water bodies.
